Nowadays, wild elephants are becoming rare in Laos, but the Lane Xang, former land of a Million Elephants, is also the Lane Tham, land of a Million Caves. Since the early 1990s, three to four expeditions every year have gradually demonstrated the outstanding speleological potential of the country.

  While over 500 km of caves and giant underground rivers have already been explored and mapped, much remains to be done. If you wish to participate in these adventures, simply contact one or the other teams active in Laos. If you prefer to organize your own caving expedition or tourist trip, you will find here lots of informations about history, travel, official procedures, exploration conditions, expedition organization, known caves and cave networks.
